2014 Devonshire Chess Classic

2014 Devonshire Chess Challenge was held on February 1st in Columbus. Total 136 players participated in this tournament. This is the second big local chess tournament in Columbus Metropolitan area in spring semester. Thirty current students of Dragon Chess Center took part in this tournament. They won 18 individual trophies.

Individual award winners:

K-3 Non-rated Section:

Kindergarten: Edward Zha - 1st place, 4.0 pts.
                     Bhavya Singhal - 2nd place, 3.0 pts.

1st Grade: Abby Stefanski - 1st place, 4.0 pts.
                Aizvereah Somakandan - 2nd place, 4.0 pts.
                Katie Richardson - 3rd place, 2.5 pts.

2nd Grade: Arjun Rajagopala - 1st place, 3.0 pts.

3rd Grade: Rushi Bhatt -
1st place, 5.0 pts.
                Karthik Kallam - 2nd place, 4.0 pts.
                Alina Niu - 3rd place, 4.0 pts.
                Sathvik Kambam - 4th place, 4.0 pts.
                Melissa Thomas - 5th place, 4.0 pts.

4-6 Non-rated Section:

4th Grade: Athin Shetty - 1st place, 4.0 pts.
                Dinesh Bojja - 2nd place, 3.5 pts.

5th Grade: Amey Haridhas - 3rd place, 3.5 pts.

6th Grade: Vishnu Dasaka - 2nd place, 4.0 pts.
                Shantanu Velnati - 4th place, 3.5 pts.

Rated U600:
       Vayun Mathur - 2nd place, 4.5 pts.

Rated U900:
       Sneha Prabu - 2nd place, 4.0 pts.

Comments:

1. The competition in K-3 and 4-6 Non-rated sections are mixed in the age groups, but the trophy award is based on grade. Dragon students took all first places from Kindergarten through 4th grade.

2. Rushi got a perfect score of 5.0 in K-3 Non-rated section. Edward, a kindergartener, got a score of 4.0 by competing with much older players. Aizvereah and Abby, two 1st graders, also did well in a K-3 Non-rated section.
