2013 Buckeye Scholastic Chess Tournament

2013 Buckeye Scholastic Chess Tournament was held on December 7th in Columbus. Total 167 players participated in this tournament. This is the second big local chess tournament in Columbus Metropolitan area in this school year. Many strong chess players primarily from Columbus area and also from other cities in Ohio participated in this tournament. Twenty five players represented Dragon Chess Club team in this tournament. They won 11 individual trophies and four team trophies.

Individual award winners:

Rated U900:
    Ethan Fang - 2nd place, 4.0
    Aryan Balyan - 3rd place, 3.5 pts.
    Kasia Stefanski - 6th place, 3.0 pts.

Rated U600:
     Sean Jackson - 5th place, 3.5 pts.

K-3 Non-rated:
      Karthik Kallam -
1st place, 5.0 pts.
      Kushal Kothapalli -
2nd place, 5.0 pts.
      Justin Hardie - 3rd place, 4.0 pts.
      Arjun Rajagopala - 4th place, 4.0 pts.
      Adithya Deepak - 5th place, 4.0 pts.
      Pranav Kannan - 7th place, 4.0 pts.

4-6 Non-rated:
      Vishnu Dasaka -
2nd place, 5.0 pts.

Team Trophies:
      K-3 Non-rated -
team champion and 2nd place (We have two teams in this section)
      4-8 Non-rated -
team champion
      U900 -
team champion

Comments:

1. Dragon chess players did very well in K-3 Non-rated and rated U900 section. But the performance in 4-8 is unsatisfied even though we got the first place team trophy. It is very rare the majority of top five or six players in 4-8 Non-rated section are non-Dragon players. Several of our top players in this age range moved to rated sections recently.

2. Karthik, Vishnu, and Kushal won all five games and earned a perfect score.
